Product Overview

Style 120 E-Glass Overview Satin weave fabrics are frequently specified for aerospace and structural applications, and offer excellent strength and surfacing characteristics. The 4H Satin Weave, in particular, is very lightweight and tightly woven, with fiberglass bundles repeatedly woven to float over three bundles, then under one. Features Satin weaves are flatter than other weaves and conform to shapes easily. Provides greater strength over standard plain weave fabrics, making it ideal for aerospace applications. If requested, this fabric can be certified to meet the requirements of: AMS-C-9084 Type III (Class 1 and 2), AMS-3824 Style 120 and ASTM D 4039-09 Style 120. Tips Although they conform well to shapes, satin weaves can be more easily distorted than other weaves. Each side of this fabric is either largely fill or warp fibers, so opposite sides will look much different. To produce a symmetrical laminate, invert half the plies. Use with epoxy resin, polyester resin, or vinyl ester resin to produce composite parts of excellent strength, low weight, and great cosmetics. To maximize strength in parts, use with an epoxy, like our System #2000. In a satin weave, one filling yarn floats over several other warp threads before being stitched under another warp fiber. Threads run straighter for much longer in this loosely woven type, maintaining the theoretical strengths of the fiber. The Style 120 weighs just 2.8 to 3.3 oz/sq yd, making it one of the lightest woven fiberglass reinforcements available. At this weight, it provides the conformability and strength advantages of a satin weave while adding minimal bulk and weight to the finished part. The aerospace satin weaves should be used wherever the highest physical properties are needed. What Are the Best Applications for Style 120 E-Glass? The lightweight, tightly woven construction makes it suitable for parts with complex contours that require precise draping without adding significant weight. It is ideal for applications where both high performance and weight savings are critical. How Should Style 120 E-Glass Be Used for Best Results? Once cut, satin weaves can unravel more easily because each thread is not held as tightly as in a plain weave, so take care when trimming pieces to size. Available as cut-to-length yardage (#573, min 10 yd), 1-yard roll (#573-A), 3-yard roll (#573-B), and 5-yard roll (#573-C)
