527 Silicone Dielectric Gel is suitable for sealing and protecting various PCB system assemblies, especially those with sensitive components. Two-component gels provide more processing flexibility when curing at room temperature without the need for ovens. However, it is possible to use heat-accelerated curing if a faster process is required. SYLGARD™ 527 is used in coating, encapsulating or potting various PCB system assemblies, especially those with sensitive components. Gels are a special class of encapsulants that harden into an extremely soft material. Cured gels retain much of the stress relief and self-healing qualities, while providing the elastic stability of an elastomer that is increasingly needed for sensitive components. Gels have been used to insulate circuits from the damaging effects of moisture and other contaminants and provide electrical insulation for high voltages. Another area of use is stress relief to protect circuits and interconnects from thermal and mechanical stress. Gels are usually applied in thick layers to fully encapsulate higher structures. More recently, gels have been used in optoelectronics due to their stress-relieving ability and high refractive index, as well as the stability of these properties over time.
